Academic Journey

Dr. Khaled O. Sebakhy joined Bahrain Polytechnic, Kingdom of Bahrain, in 2025 as an Assistant Professor of Chemical Engineering. He earned his B.Sc. in Chemical Engineering from Alexandria University, Egypt, followed by a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Polymer Chemistry in 2013 at the Australian Institute for Bioengineering and Nanotechnology (AIBN), University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia. His MPhil thesis, “RAFT-Mediated Polymerization in Nanoreactors,” explored advanced controlled polymerization techniques within confined environments.

In 2018, Dr. Sebakhy was awarded the prestigious Queen Elizabeth II Doctoral Fellowship to pursue his Ph.D. in Chemical and Petroleum Engineering at the University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, under the supervision of Prof. Pedro Pereira-Almao. Following his Ph.D., he was appointed as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at Carleton University, Ottawa.

Later in 2018, he joined the Engineering and Technology Institute Groningen (ENTEG) at the University of Groningen, The Netherlands, where he served as Lecturer and Senior Research Scientist, supported by the esteemed Erasmus Fellowship. In 2022, he joined the Centre for Polymer and Material Technologies (CPMT) at Ghent University, Belgium, as a Senior Research Scientist, a position funded by the prestigious FWO Postdoctoral Fellowship from Flanders.

Dr. Sebakhy’s research is dedicated to the design and synthesis of bio-based and sustainable polymers through green and environmentally friendly methodologies, with applications spanning advanced materials, coatings, and renewable technologies.
